Malawi - Joint Report to Human Rights Committee HRC

Irish Rule of Law International has partnered with The Malawi Centre for Human Rights Education, Advice and Assistance (CHREAA), the Southern Africa Litigation Centre (SALC), and Reprieve to submit a report to the Human Rights Committee (HRC).

 

Irish Rule of Law International has partnered with The Malawi Centre for Human Rights Education, Advice and Assistance (CHREAA), the Southern Africa Litigation Centre (SALC), and Reprieve to submit a report to the Human Rights Committee (HRC) for the drafting of the list of issues prior to reporting (LOIPR) ahead of the upcoming review by the HRC of Malawi which will take place between the 1st and 26th of March this year.

 

Human Rights Committee (HRC) to review Malawi

The HRC will review Malawi’s compliance with its human rights obligations under the International Covenant for Civil and Political Rights, as well as Malawi’s progress in implementing recommendations from its 2012 session.

 

Human Rights Issues Highlighted

The submission includes information pertaining to Malawi's obligations as regards:

  • the prohibition of torture
  • access to justice
  • fair trial rights
  • extrajudicial killings
  • prison conditions
